Daily trade turnover on Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) hit a fresh seven-month high on Wednesday as investors were active on both sides of the trading fence.Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, stood at Tk 11.10 billion on the country’s premier bourse, climbing further by 20 per cent over previous day.It was the biggest single-day transaction since November 8 last year, when the turnover totaled a record Tk 14.95 billion.Block transactions, however, added Tk 1.32 billion to the total turnover as 89 companies shares traded on the block market on the day.Following the previous day s upbeat note, the market soared at the opening and the benchmark index of the DSE rose more than 19 points within the first hour of trading.But the rest of the session went down steadily as the cautious investors opted for booking profits on quick-gaining stocks, ultimately closing the market almost flat in the red.DSEX, the prime index of the DSE saw a fractional loss of 0.28 point to settle at 6305.90, after gaining almost 25 points in the past two days.Two other indices also edged lower. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, dropped 0.73 points to finish at 2,195 and the DSE Shariah index fell 1.33 points to close at 1,369.Losers took a modest lead over the gainers as out of 364 issues traded, 99 declined, 74 closed higher and 191 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.Navana Pharma became the most-traded stock with shares worth Tk 372 million changing hands, followed by Intraco Refueling Stations, Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, Orion Infusion and Genex Infosys.The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), however, edged up with the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) gaining 14 points to settle at 18,596 and its Selective Categories Index (CSCX) rising 5 points to close at 11,126.Of the issues traded, 75 advanced, 57 declined and 110 issues remained unchanged.The port-city bourse traded 4.72 million shares and mutual fund units with turnover value of Tk 150 million.
